What Our Dental Implants Patients Are Saying

Things you might be wondering about the sedation methods we offer

At The DentisTree, we provide two primary forms of sedation: oral sedation and nitrous oxide sedation. Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed pill before your visit to help you feel calm and relaxed. Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is inhaled through a mask during your procedure, promoting a sense of comfort and ease throughout your treatment.

At The DentisTree, oral sedation involves taking a prescribed sedative in pill form before your dental visit. This helps reduce anxiety and promotes a calm, relaxed state throughout your procedure. You may feel sleepy or experience a sense that time is passing quickly. Because the effects can last for several hours, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.

Nitrous oxide sedation, commonly known as laughing gas, is a fast-acting and easily controlled form of sedation delivered through a mask over your nose. It helps you stay calm and comfortable during your procedure, with effects that fade quickly once the gas is stopped. Unlike oral sedation, which takes longer to kick in and wear off, nitrous oxide allows you to resume your usual activities shortly after your appointment.

There are several types of sedation:

  • Nitrous oxide (laughing gas): mild and wears off quickly.

  • Oral sedation: a pill taken before the appointment to induce relaxation.

  • IV sedation: administered intravenously for a deeper level of sedation.
Each method is safe and used based on the procedure and patient preference.

Recovery time depends on the type of sedation used. Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes, allowing patients to resume normal activities right away. Oral and IV sedation require more time, and you may feel drowsy for several hours afterward. You’ll need someone to drive you home. Your dentist will provide post-care instructions and let you know when it’s safe to return to work or daily tasks.
